Berkshire, known as the Royal County of Berkshire due to its royal connections, is located in the South East of England. 

Here are some things that make Berkshire special;

1. Windsor Castle

One of Berkshire's most famous landmarks is Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. It is an official residence of the Queen and has been a home of British monarchs for over 1,000 years.

2. Ascot Racecourse

Berkshire is home to the prestigious Ascot Racecourse, famous for its horse racing events, most notably the Royal Ascot meeting, attended by members of the British Royal Family.

3. Eton College

Located in Berkshire, Eton College is one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in the world. Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, it has educated numerous British prime ministers and members of the royal family.

4. Reading Festival

The Reading Festival, held annually in Berkshire's largest town, Reading, is one of the UK's most famous music festivals, alongside its sister event in Leeds.

5. The River Thames

6. Downton Abbey

Highclere Castle, located near Newbury in Berkshire, is known globally as the filming location for the television series "Downton Abbey." The castle is a prime example of Victorian Gothic architecture.

7. Silicon Valley of the UK

The area around Reading and Bracknell is often referred to as the 'Silicon Valley of the UK' due to the high concentration of tech companies located there.

8. The Uffington White Horse

While just outside the modern boundaries of Berkshire, the Uffington White Horse is a prehistoric hill figure believed to date back to the Iron Age or the late Bronze Age and is visible from the northern part of the county.

9. Newbury Racecourse

Another famous horse racing venue, Newbury Racecourse hosts several important races throughout the year, including the Lockinge Stakes.

10. Historical Battles

Berkshire was the site of several battles, including the First Battle of Newbury during the English Civil War, and the Battle of Reading during the Danish invasions.
