We have helped hundreds of clients and families live more independent and fulfilling lives
Our Bedfordshire based Private OT's provide specialist Occupational Therapy and Sensory Integration services across the county including the major towns of Luton, Bedford, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard.Â
Bedfordshire, located in the East of England, is a county known for its rich history and diverse landscapes.Â
Here are some things that make Bedfordshire unique;
1. Luton and the Hat Industry
Luton, the largest town in Bedfordshire, was historically famous for hat-making. The industry dates back to the 17th century, and Luton is still celebrated for this heritage, particularly during the annual Luton International Carnival.
2. Bedford's Cultural Diversity
Bedford, the county town, is known for its cultural diversity. It has one of the highest concentrations of Italian immigrants in the UK, largely due to recruitment in the 1950s for the brick manufacturing industry.
3. Woburn Abbey and Safari Park
Woburn Abbey, a historic country house, is home to the Duke of Bedford. It also encompasses a deer park and the Woburn Safari Park, a popular tourist attraction where visitors can see a wide range of wild animals.
4. Airship Development at Cardington
The Cardington airship hangars, near Bedford, played a significant role in the development of airships in the early 20th century. The R101 airship was constructed here, one of the largest built in the UK.
5. Bletchley Park
Although technically just over the border in Buckinghamshire, Bletchley Park is closely associated with Bedfordshire. It was the central site for British codebreakers during World War II, including Alan Turing, and played a crucial role in the development of early computers.
6. The Great River Ouse
This major river in England flows through Bedfordshire, including the town of Bedford. The river and its surrounding landscapes provide scenic walking paths and opportunities for boating and fishing.
7. Dunstable Downs
Part of the Chiltern Hills, Dunstable Downs is the highest point in Bedfordshire. It's a popular spot for kite flying, gliding, and enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
8. Leighton Buzzard Light Railway
This narrow-gauge heritage railway in Leighton Buzzard was originally built to serve the sand quarries in the area. It's now a tourist attraction, offering rides on historic steam and diesel locomotives.
9. St Paul's Church in Bedford
This historic church, located in the town center of Bedford, is a fine example of 13th-century architecture. John Bunyan, the author of "The Pilgrim's Progress," was a frequent preacher here.
10. The Shuttleworth Collection
Located near Biggleswade, the Shuttleworth Collection is an aeronautical and automotive museum known for its collection of vintage aircraft and vehicles, some of which are still operational.
