A highly specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist and Neurosciences Team Lead at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, with extensive experience in complex neurological rehabilitation, major trauma, burns and children with medical complexities.
Ruth provides expert assessment and intervention for children and young people including those with acquired and traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular and neurometabolic conditions, brain tumours, functional neurological disorder, chronic pain, and complex orthopaedic injuries.
Committed to on-going professional development and specialisation, Ruth is completing a Master’s degree in Sensory Integration and is currently trained to administer a range of assessments including the Sensory Profile 2 and Structured Observations of Sensory Integration-Motor. Her approach integrates sensory processing, cognition and motor performance to inform her clinical reasoning. Ruth uses motivational interviewing and therapeutic coaching to support functional skills including handwriting, self-care and activities of daily living.

Ruth’s clinical practice includes specialist tone and postural management, sleep systems, modular seating, upper and lower limb thermoplastic splinting, pressure garment prescription, and scar management.Â
Ruth’s neurorehabilitation expertise spans critical care, post surgical rehabilitation, and functional assessment and intervention across home, education and community environments. She provides support to clients following brain injuries, including fatigue management, sleep advice and supporting young people transitioning back into the community and/or into adult services.Â
She contributes to Education, Health and Care Plans, facilitates school reintegration, and delivers practical education for parents, teachers and community professionals to provide consistent support strategies and maximise functional outcomes.
Beyond clinical practice, Ruth has led service development projects, including establishing a functional electrical stimulation programme. She maintains strong links with academic and research communities. Ruth has delivered a lecture at Salford University, presented at the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Research Day, is the research champion at the Children’s Hospital, and maintains involvement in the national major trauma rehabilitation network.
Ruth is recognised for her clear communication, collaborative approach, and ability to empower children and families through meaningful, practical interventions.
