A hard working, driven Occupational therapist with over 15 years experience in Health and Education services. Emma has extensive experience working with adults with varied and complex neurological disabilities, including traumatic brain injury. She has spent over a decade specialising in the rehabilitation and long-term management of individuals with complex disabilities, working both as a private Occupational Therapist and also as the OT Team Operations Manager for the National Star College, a world-class further education college and rehabilitation centre for young adults with complex disabilities. During this time Emma has developed excellent knowledge and expertise in supporting young people with their transition plans, assessing and making recommendations for housing, adaptations, employment, statutory and non-statutory service provision. She is passionate about adopting a ‘can do’ attitude to her work, overcoming barriers and thinking creatively to achieve the goals that are meaningful to her clients.

Emma is experienced in functional goal setting, maintaining a person-centred approach, and a firm believer in a multidisciplinary approach to achieve functional goals. She has experience of working with clients who have limited communication and those who use assistive augmentative communication devices. Emma has sound knowledge of complex posture, wheelchairs and seating and is able to be creative in her practice to enable client participation in meaningful activities. She is skilled in community access training for those who are either learning how to keep themselves safe for the first time or relearning skills following injury.

Emma has successfully managed and trained teams of therapists and completed all operational tasks involved in the management and recruitment of staff.

Currently working as an Occupational Therapist and a Rehabilitation Case Manager Emma has built on many years of experience in understanding and supporting families through challenging circumstances. She is a firm believer in affective communication, understanding the scope and limitations of her own practice and engaging with the wider professional team to enable clients to maximise their potential for successful outcomes.
