What We Love About Oxfordshire

Aside from the fact that our founders, Helen and Mark Spencer, lived in Wolvercote on the outskirts of Oxford, it's a county well known for its rich history, stunning architecture, beautiful countryside, and vibrant cultural life;

Historic Oxford: The city of Oxford, known as the "City of Dreaming Spires," is renowned for its historic university, which dates back to the 12th century. The University of Oxford is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the world, with beautiful colleges, libraries, and museums.

Architectural Beauty: Oxfordshire is home to a wealth of architectural marvels, from the medieval buildings of Oxford University to the Baroque Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

Countryside and Nature: The county offers picturesque landscapes, including the rolling hills of the Cotswolds and the Chilterns, perfect for walking, cycling, and outdoor activities. The River Thames also flows through the county, providing scenic river walks and boating opportunities.

Literary Connections: Oxfordshire has inspired many famous authors, including Lewis Carroll, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis. The region's enchanting scenery and historic settings have been the backdrop for numerous literary works and films.

Cultural Attractions: Besides the historical and literary sites, there are numerous art galleries, theaters, and museums, such as the Ashmolean Museum, the oldest public museum in the UK.

Culinary Scene: The county boasts a diverse culinary scene, from traditional English pubs to fine dining restaurants. Local produce and farmers' markets are also a highlight.

Festivals and Events: Oxfordshire hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, including literary festivals, music events, and traditional English fairs.

Educational Opportunities: As home to one of the world's leading universities, the area offers unparalleled educational opportunities and a vibrant academic community.

Historical Towns and Villages: Beyond Oxford, there are charming towns and villages like Woodstock, Burford, and Henley-on-Thames, each with their own unique character and history.

Accessibility and Connectivity: Oxfordshire is well-connected to London and other major cities, making it an ideal location for those who want to enjoy the tranquility of the countryside while being close to urban centers.

Did you know that whilst Ashmolean Museum is heralded as the oldest public museum in the UK and one of the oldest museums in the world, the acquisition of some of the founding collections under Elias Ashmole are less clear, with some suggestion that his acquisition of John Tradescant's collections and antiquities may have been less than savoury.

Rhi Carpenter

Occupational Therapist

"I really love my job as a paediatric OT with The OT Centre.

The freedom to manage my time and caseload without undue pressure is invaluable. Helen and the team prioritize our well-being, recognising it enhances client care.

I also appreciate the new IT systems that visually track progress toward long-term goals, keeping both me and my clients motivated. Occupational Therapy is a wonderful profession, so it's rewarding to be able to apply a wide range of OT skills to assist my clients, particularly within the context of a supportive team."
