Karen's Bio

Karen is a diligent, passionate professional  with over 20 years of experience as a Neurorehabilitation specialist. She provides assessment and intervention for clients with a broad spectrum of complex needs across Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke and degenerative conditions including Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease.

Karen’s peers describe her as friendly, personable and approachable, and an asset to the team. She has exceptional communication skills enabling her to build a good client rapport and an effective working relationship with the professional team. She particularly enjoys working with complex cases, drawing on her experience to provide therapy, advice and education.

With a special interest in Cognition and Cognitive rehabilitation, she is committed to understanding how her clients' difficulties impact their day to day functioning and quality of life, tailoring her approach and interventions to address individual challenges and goals. She adopts a client centred approach to therapy and is keen to enable clients to work on what matters to them. Working closely with her clients and those around them, her passion lies in improving their overall quality of life engaging with their individualised goals.

Karen is also highly experienced in completing upper-limb assessment as well as assessing for adaptations and small aids. She has completed a course on Postural Management and is also Bobath trained. She also has experience in seating and wheelchair assessment. The breadth of her experience allows her to be a versatile and flexible OT, confident across a range of clinical settings.

After qualifying in 1994 Karen went on to specialise in Neurorehabilitation, spending several years in a Community Neuro Rehabilitation team. As a Neuro Clinical Specialist she has attained a high level of skill and compassion working with clients with acquired neurological conditions.  

Karen also has experience within vocational rehabilitation, supporting and enabling those with a range of cognitive difficulties to return to work in varying capacities to suit their individual needs. She keenly attends conferences and training courses and has previously presented at conferences herself within the field of neurorehabilitation.
